Angry slayer is angry

Really Gage? Really?

And, of course, everyone's opinion is going to be "Why do you even bother? Just don't read the comics!" Which is a very, very wise opinion but, you know, me being the endlessly stupid hopeful girl and sometimes I like the comics so.
But this time, this issue ... OMG JUST NO is a strong enough opinion?

The issue opens with Angel in a coma/mental confusion/state of helplessness and Spike and Faith tallking about how they can fix the situation. There is a mystical thingy that they need to find and so on ...
At the beginning of the issue Spike says that Angelus isn't a different persona, he's really a demon that it's always present. And so that. Then he says that resurrecting people is dangerous and he knows that but Faith says that she saw it works once (I suppose with Buffy) and so it's fine to try. Then our heroes search for the mystical cup of stuff to contain Giles' soul and free Angel.

And the Spike's rant starts.

Of course, Spike terribly wants to just have sex! He didn't even looked at Morgan (A willingly sexy lady) but know he wants it so bad and so he starts hitting on Faith. And Faith doesn't want to be a rebound girl but he tells her that she slept with Xander and she was flirty in S7 "Dirty Girls" SO WHY NOT?

Faith - now more mature than everyone else - says that he needs to stop thinking about Buffy and he will get laid. Because, of course, the point was that.

But Spike's rant continues.

Now he wants to hit Giles' aunts but they don't want because of reasons. And Spike needs to rant about it, you know? And he ends up saying that he admired Angel for leaving Buffy and starting a new life in L.A and that this is all Angel's fault because he was getting laid with all the soul thingy and Spike took it just for that and now bad Buffy won't have sex with him! BECAUSE OF COURSE, LET'S FORGET ABOUT SEASON SEVEN AND JUST PICK SOME RANDOM WORDS OF CRAZY!SPIKE IN BENEATH YOU.
Not sadisfied Spike even ask himself: MAYBE BUFFY WANTED JUST A MONSTER! WHY I DIDN'T THINK ABOUT THAT BEFORE?

Because, of course, Spike didn't tell Riley that Buffy wanted a monster in her man. He didn't believed that for all Season Six. He never thought about that at all. He now thinks that because the soul was such a lame idea and they weren't closer after his return in Sunnydale. Totally.

What can I say to his wonderful portrayal of Spike? Congrats, Gage!

Spike is Spike - I can see/hear him ranting. Doesn't mean he was serious. But Angel pimping Harmony out to him... and Spike jumping right to it... THAT bothered me. For a lot of reasons. But wanting Spike to remain celibate to prove how much he still loves Buffy isn't one of my needs. He likes women; he likes sex; and he probably feels a need to posture a lot in front of Faith and Angel to prove he isn't just "love's bitch" - I'm not really all that bothered by it.

I'm not bothered by Spike having sex with other women. But I can't understand why he refused with Morgan and now he can't keep it in his pants. Also, Harmony suffered with him. And, yes, soulless vampire and shallow blonde girl but she had her feelings too.

Yeah, the comics are written mostly by guys. Dare I say it - immature guys? And they want Spike to get more sex than they do. :) Even when he was on IDW, he was always hitting on or being hit on by women. It's just how they want to see him. I do think Harmony is a bad choice. He has a history of hurting her, and what's with Angel pimping her out? Neither vampire comes out much of a hero in this one.

But I do think it was showing off for Faith and Angel that brought on his sudden attack of horniness. He was trying to maintain an image so they wouldn't pity him or think he was pathetic. I totally get that.

I would get that if he was written better. His endless rant seems really grotesque and insensate giving all the things he did in S9 for Buffy and how his mini ended. And saint!Angel who rolls his eyes is unbearable.

Yeah, the thing that bothers me is more Angel and Faith's smug prissiness - "Har, har, Spike's such a loser only Harmony would have him!"/"Harmony's such a vapid slut, we can pitch her at anyone!" And I'm like, REALLY, Angel? A consensual hookup between consenting adults is really so much more sleazy than manipulating Buffy and killing her friends to set her up for a cosmic roofie?

I don't have words to say how much I dislike all of this. And why they treat Harmony like that?

The rational part of me thinks, well, with everything he's gone through, it's natural that Spike might feel confused, angry, conflicted etc about having gotten the soul. The more emotional part of me is shouting, oh NO, just HELL NO to all of this!

Which is okay, you know, feeling confused and angry and just rant about stuff or have sex. It's just that everything is written SO BAD! And Spike seems a dull character, at least to me. Ouch!

Oh that's just wrong on so many levels I don't know how to begin.

Spike's behavior was so bizarre to me that I was convinced that it would turn out he actually *had* lost his soul when that ender attacked him, and he was just trying to hide it. I mean, he sounded an awful lot more like his S6 self to me than anything since. But, um, no, apparently it's just bad writing.

Also agreed on the Harmony stuff. WTF??!!

I also thought: what if Angel lost his soul during the whole process? But it seems that nobody lost anything and generally yes: WTF?!
