My heart is often broke (But in a good way)

Second day of the meme. I was thinking to do this post tomorrow *already slipping* But I love you guys and I love to read your thoughts about BtVS.

But first of all let me tell you about me crying for tv-shows. I don't know if anyone in my f-list is watching True Detective. Today I saw the last episode of this season and I cried. I found it so beautiful and moving. The final scene reminded me a verse from The Divine Comedy. Amazing. Plus, I also watched the final episode of Looking (first season, still on HBO) and I found it touching and also beautiful.
Basically I cry a lot for stuff I like. I'm a crybaby when it comes to touching stories. And that brings me to my next topic.

Day 30: What You Think Made Buffy So Great

You think that I'm going to choose just ONE episode of my all time favourite tv-show? PLS.
It also will be impossible, because BtVS is a show in which different genres mix and all the episodes are different from each others and some are funny, some sad etc. It's physically impossible, to me, to choose just one aspect of it.

First of all I have to say that I started watching BtVS when I was thirteen/fourteen and I fell in love with the gothic romance aspect of it. I was a little lady when I saw my first episode and everybody - or, at least - some people in my class had already watch it, but I was kind of afraid because I'm not a big fan of horror and I get scared really easily (Yes, girly-girl here.) So when I saw one episode - I started with S2 - and I realized that it was about a girl kicking the monsters butts - not so scary since she was pretty much winning every time - I jumped on board. And I totally jumped on board of Angel/Buffy's epic doomed romance.

I was fourteen years old and David Boreanaz was fucking hot. What can I tell you?

I totally jumped on board with S2 and I didn't relate with Buffy AT ALL. She was very different from me. I was much more the Willow-type of girl and still, for some obscure reasons, I also didn't feel much for Willow. (That's my thing, see: I'm totally the nerdy responsible shy type and still I don't connect much emotionally with Willow even if I can relate in theory)

Anyway, I was all *my emotions* about Buffy's first romance and the general romantic/decadent atmosphere from S2 that I Only Have Eyes for you pretty much embodies perfectly. The doomed love story, the tragic yet romantic epilogue, the surprisingly reverse roles between Buffy and Angel, the angsty kiss. In memory of my adolescence I choose to mention I Only Have Eyes for you in this topic, among my favourite episodes of all the time. (But Lovers' walk, Beauty and the Beasts, Amends also do the job)

You already know, from the previous episode, that S5 is flawless for me. Some of my all time favourites are there:

Fool For Love (Spike fangirl here. Big surprise) Because it was the episode that made me fall in love with Spike. And, as you can see, I still love that foolish hopeless vampire with a poet past, much more than any other male character. Plus the fact that there's History in it. Give me History everytime!

Intervention is maybe THE PERFECT BtVS EPISODE. There's everything in it: Spike being stupid, Spike being heroic, Spike being covered in sexy wounds, Spike being kissed by Buffy. Buffy finding out about her gift, expressing her love for Dawn and Giles, being on mission with Giles. And - I don't think I need to mention her - THE BUFFYBOT. <3 Love forever.

The Body because it's maybe the most beautiful and painful work of art that Joss has ever done.

Restless because it's all about the Scoobies' dreams and we get to examine the soul of Willow, Buffy, Xander and Giles. Plus all the gorgeous foreshadowing. I adore Restless.

This Year's Girl/Who are You because it's an amazing pair of episodes. And for some reasons I kinda like TYG even more, because we get to explore Faith's dreams (Yes, I have a thing about dreams) and we see that she's terrified of Buffy. Powerful. I mean, Faith is evil and everything and Buffy is the thing "monsters have nightmares about" so it makes sense. But also Faith, a human being, scared of what Buffy can do. It gives me the chills.

The Freshman. Because I relate so much that it gets embarrassing. For personal reasons it's one of my favourite season premieres.

Conversation with Dead People because it's actually really scary - the scariest parts are the Dawn's parts - and we have Buffy in therapy. Please, give us more.

Afterlife I'm not including other stuff because I'm trying to be brief here *nobody believes here* But you get my point: S6 is love. I just love numb!Buffy and all the Spike scenes.

Showtime Beautiful. Perfect episode as much as Intervention: we have super-awesome general!Buffy, the most romantic moment in the history of television and movies - the ending when Buffy rescues Spike (That moment fuels my personal believe that Buffy and Spike belong together) But mostly of all: OMG Buffy fights the scary monster and "I don't know what's coming next. But I do know it's gonna be just like this; hard, painful. But in the end it's gonna be us. If we all do our parts, believe it, we'll be the ones left standing. Here endeth the lesson." *forever applauding*

Selfless You know that moment when Anya is singing her song wearing her gorgeous white dress? And the scene suddenly shows her with a sword on her chest. Heartbreak everytime. It sums up BtVS pretty good.

Those are awesome choices. I would probably include Dead Things and Passion (that episode made me literally gasp out loud) and not include Showtime and The Freshman, but other than that it's a great list.

I thought about that. It's really hard to me to choose, since I love even Beer Bad. XD I also considered the episodes I rewatch the most and even if I really like Passions I don't rewatch very often as others because of the pain.

Same regarding relating to The Freshman :( I had all of these grand plans for reinventing myself in college, and then when it came to it I spend most of those years hiding in my room :sighs:

And I love all of those episodes (Afterlife is so underrated!), although I would probably replace The Freshman, Intervention and Showtime with Life Serial, OMWF, and Dead Things *g*

I love the fact that Willow is also excited while Buffy is much more scared and she didn't really make good plans (She chose her classes at the last moment)

I forgot about Once More With Feeling! That is such a great episode.

I talk about OMWF in this day post. Really, there are too much beautiful episodes in BtVS. Can't choose!

A list containing no flaws. (Though, I've seen The Freshman only once and don't really relate -- the American college boarding system is very strange to me.) But really, WHAT IS A FAVOURITE BUFFY EPISODE? Rude question.

The Italian system is also very different, but I relate with Buffy on a spiritual level. You know, scared clumsy girl? That's me.

I tried to be brief! >O

I was already in love with Spike when I saw Fool for Love, so my experience was more like being head over heels in love with someone, and thinking you can't possibly love them any more than you already do, and then you learn more about the person -- their history, their dreams --and you realize that you are capable of even deeper love. Oh, Spike.

So hard to choose. I'd definitely include Dead Things -- it's painful, but so important and complex. OMWF. Tabula Rasa. Dopplegangland. Becoming. The Gift.

Spike is an endless source of surprise and joy. I love him so much and I'm forever fascinated by his complexity. (I'm pissed that the comics are so lame on that matter, but eventually I will get there with my next posts)

Also consider that: in Italy the trasmission of BtVS wasn't regular. They started with the first three seasons and for a while it was just that. Then they go on with S4 - but I didn't saw it - S5 and that's when I started watching again and then S7 before S6 (Because they censored S6)
My first approach was a very confused one. For me everything for Spike started after Fool for Love, but I missed his S4 part. I understood much better when I rewatched all the seven seasons in English.
