Music makes me happy

Buffy. And it's always going to be me.
Here I am with the scheduled meme post.

But, first of all, I just want to share THIS, an interview to Freddie Prinze Jr in which he admits that he never watched Buffy because "it wasn't written for his demography" WTF, Freddie? XD That's the stupidest thing I've heard this week! Thanks to frelling_tralk for sharing it. Hilarious. Now I'm going to rewatch True Detective which is a show *not written for my demography*. I'm such a rebel.

Also I changed a day in the meme. Who cares about '90 special effects when you can talk about sex? XD

So: favourite song used in an episode. Of course, how can we forget Once More with Feeling? It was one of the best BtVS episodes ever, in every way. I watched it and rewatched it. I like to listen to the songs.

You need to know that I'm not the musical type of girl. Apart from some exceptions, I generally find slightly irritating when people start singing and dancing in the middle of a movie dialogue or something. It's just not for me. But, of course, I have exceptions and very much of it depends on how beautiful the songs are. The songs in OMWF are lovely! I love almost every song, except maybe for the one sang by the demon (Too Broadway, I guess? It's just not my thing) But otherwise beautiful songs. And the lyrics!

"I touch the fire and it freezes me"

"Still I always feel the strange estrangement / Nothing here is real, nothing here is right"

"And what's with all the carrots? / What do they need such good eyesight for anyway?"

"THEY GOT THE MUSTARD OUT."

*hearts everywhere*

I consider a beautiful song even the one played during Selfless. According to the story Anya sang it during OMFW - yay for continuity! - and you already know how much I love Selfless. My heart breaks at the "Just stand aside, here comes the bride". Ouch.

But, if you want me to pick a regular song from a band, my choice is Blue by Angie Hart. I just love the montage at the beginning of CWDP. Buffy walking alone in the darkness of the cemetery, Dawn at home, Willow almost falling asleep ...

"Can I make it right? Can I spend the night ... Alone?"

That's a good choice. As I said when I did the meme, I would choose the Michelle Branch song that plays at the end of Tabula Rasa, but Blue in CWDP would be a pretty close second.

I love OMWF, but it is so depressing to watch! I swear it is the most depressing episode of the show for me (although the end of Tabula Rasa is the most depressing moment on the show). I like to listen to the songs though. They are great.

I don't get depressed at OMWF, even if it's a really sad episode in many ways - because there are a lot of funny moments and generally it seems so bright and happy apparently.

I also tought about the Michelle Branch's song, mostly because I really love the montage that ends with the Spuffy kissing. Such a good kiss.

IIRC I picked Once More With Feeling as my fave ep of the show EVER. So, I feel you. Agreed also about Anya's song in Selfless, which incidentally is among my top five for the show too!

"Blue" is another one of my favorites. (When will I disagree with you, is the real question). Credit where it's due to Joss for co-writing that one (along with most of the numbers in OMWF, if I'm right).

Yes, Joss can write beautiful songs, we have to admit it. So far we are on the same page, I'm glad!

OMWF is brilliant, but for non-original songs, I'd choose Out of This World, in Dead Things -- Spike and Buffy aching for each other, separated by that door. Goodbye to You in Tabula Rasa. Stupid Thing in School Hard, when Spike first sees and becomes obsessed with Buffy. Full of Grace, as Buffy's leaving Sunnydale at the end of Season 2.

And those are just the ones that spring immediately to mind!

I don't particularly like Sarah McLachland, but she was the perfect choice for Becoming.

I also liked other songs but I didn't include them in the post (I'm trying to be brief XD) like the one we ear in Freshman, when Buffy meets Xander, or that one supposedly sung by Veruca.
